I was going to make a similar point. More people with college degrees is a big win for any society. And lots of degree programs are incredibly valuable even if they aren’t training for a specific job. The problem is we’ve set it up as a direct profit choice for the individual.
And before anyone thinks we should try the new irs now that auditing and collections have been purged, that won’t work for us. The vast majority of us have long since faced automated auditing. The computers are still there.
It’s only the wealthy with vastly more complex tax situations requiring teams of auditors to look at, that now have more opportunity to cheat on their taxes

I was repeating the number from the person I replied to - it did cross my mind that there’s a higher bracket, but I took the number - the existence of one more bracket doesn’t really change anything. Why do the brackets end when there are so many people so much wealthier? While I understand wealthy people tend to get money through other types of income, and that’s an even bigger issue, we should have more brackets. It seems like everyone agrees to have a partly progressive income tax (disregarding other types of income) with brackets so wealthier people pay a higher percentage, it shouldn’t end at what may be considered the lowest income of the wealthy.

Certainly a bigger problem is how someone who can afford over $1M private jet would be in only the 35% bracket
It’s not too bad as long as you’re not a dick about it. One year I marked myself as head of household instead of single. I’m not even sure why I did it. I only thought “huh, this saved a lot on my taxes”, and really had no idea what I was doing. They sent back a correction and how much i owed. I paid and that was it. Not scary at all.
Of course in today’s world all about spite and punishment I could imagine it being much worse

Maybe the real problem is people wanting to apply one answer to all problems. I’m fine with a capitalist economy where an ethical government regulates the market to serve the people and there are socialist structures where appropriate
Seriously. People don’t seem to remember or understand how intense anti-communist feelings were during the Cold War. It would be un-American to assume anything different than capitalism.
I heard that most of my life, so it feels extremely unsettling to experience MAGA love affair with some of the tyrants their forbears would have most hated

Back when patriotism was “normal”, Scouts along with veterans helped organize and run a regional event to properly and respectfully retire worn flags. It was a huge deal
But this is a fairly recent thing that Boy Scouts has become more inclusive.
My kids were just moving up when they were opening cub scouts. As a parent I thought it was great that it made it more family oriented. No one complained about the girls, no one complained that women were now able to run camping events, no one complained that there were entire families at camping events.
I have no idea how they approached it for Boy Scouts.
But the thing is, this is change, recent change. And change is scary. Regressives want to hold back change, even to a past more mythical than real
Like ten years ago, Girl Scouts in my town had a civil war, because they were leaning too heavily on “girl”activities. A bunch of the girls defected to Boy scouts to do “more fun activities”
I don’t understand how that didn’t happen immediately. My understanding was cfpb was somewhat unique in that Congress created it as an independent thing and with its own source of funding.

You’re giving him too much credit too. There never was a strategy, only “what’s in it for me?” With a side of “what can I get from letting x do whatever he wants?” In this case he can’t help but see the polls and it doesn’t affect him so why should he care
