Dec 18, 2025Between the (likely) expiration of the Affordable Care Act enhanced subsidies, cuts to Medicaid and Medicare, and the decade-long efforts to undermine and dismantle the ACA, the casualties and costs of our current healthcare system continue to grow as Americans continue to wait for a better option. Nearly 45,000 Americans aged 17-65 die each year due to lack of insurance, a number that could rise to over 51,000 preventable deaths in the coming years.
Yet, the Senate has failed to pass either healthcare plan proposed to keep health insurance premiums from skyrocketing in the New Year and the Medicare for All bill introduced by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and US Reps. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) and Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.) in April 2025 has not advanced in Congress. Ideas like Medicare for All or universal healthcare often make eyes roll. “That’s unrealistic,” we’re told.
Cause money.
I think the real reason is that the bleeding second that people’s access to healthcare is no longer tied to their employer there’s going to be a mass exodus from the workforce as people go out and start their own businesses, or move to a job with a better work/life balance, or to a job that just isn’t soul-crushing. This will make it much harder for businesses to underpay their employees, and I think there are very powerful business interests who see Americans having unrestricted access to healthcare as an existential threat to their profitability.
This is it right here, and the pandemic’s effectual unmasking of the majority of workplace constructs really put a magnifying glass on it.
The owner class depends too much on the reliability of our suffering and desperation. They continue to put their heel on our necks, and we have put up with it for the most part so why would they give even a millimeter of ground they’ve already claimed?
Exactly, it’s a stick to beat people with. Just like the lack of social safety nets. The capitalists need to coerce people to work for them.
People would do the work anyway, but they would put up with less crap with proper social programs, which is the problem.
You need a workforce who don’t have choices, not smart enough to know you’ve screwed them over, but smart enough to make you money, and constantly on the verge of ruin where they can’t risk what little you’ve allowed them to have. Your statement is but one block of suppression stacked on our shoulders.
Let’s consolidate corporations, let’s ruin social safety nets, let’s shame intelligence and embrace ignorance, let’s change the public opinion with constant news bites yelled loud and often.
Make people worried about egg prices and not the enshitification of our food supply as a whole. Gas prices instead of letting people ask why our whole infrastructure is based on cars. You need people focused on the pen tip not what it’s writing.

Because our system is paralyzed with corruption.
The worst part is there are many ways to fix the problems. It is ultimately a cultural issue because our existing system would probably work fine if people weren’t a bunch of greedy pig boys.
It’s working perfectly for the people who get to decide what the US healthcare system should be.
When Luigi Mangione gets acquitted he should publicly confront all the healthcare CEOs by shaking their hands and staring into their eyes until it gets very uncomfortable.
“now that we’re acquainted, fix this system so you won’t ever see me again”.

I’m not attracted to men, but the fact he may have “forced a healthcare CEO to retire early” makes me want to have his babies. Which is a problem, because I’m a man…
If I remember correctly it’s because they will take away your doctor and put you in front of a death panel.
Maybe I’m in the minority, but I don’t give 2 shits who my doctor is when I can’t afford the care.

It’s working fine making money for people who already have enough. What do you think it should be doing?
