I think you underestimate how far to the Right establishment Dems are

It doesn’t cost the economy at all; great efficiency frees up resources for other purposes. The only downside is to the companies that make the devices and rely on planned obsolescence for profitability. The stock market and “the economy” are NOT synonyms.

It’ll be an uphill battle since Ranked Choice Voting would weaken the power of both Democrats & Republicans and party leadership knows it but I also support it strongly for just that reason.

Can’t win them all. I ascribe to the saying “if voting didn’t work, they wouldn’t try so hard to stop people from doing it” though I am realistic about it’s limitations. Voting each year is the bare minimum people can do to change conditions.

I think the quote is saying that leaders aren’t being picked for perceived merits, rather we’re just shitheads picking shitheads

My machine was once VERY capable. It’s not a top of the line gaming box but it’s still capable and shows no signs of crapping out yet. Can’t run windows 11 but it’s not worth throwing away my computer over.
