That’s exactly what I have been doing. I still have my Gmail account… but only for government and commercial shit. Anything else has an alternate or even temporary email.

Including lemmy accounts.

I didnt discuss anything dicey or sensitive or even too personal, and i never used a paid service. But honestly all these data breaches are just… fucked. Especially with governments increasingly passing ID laws that will result in even more sensitive information being leaked (and that already happened in the UK).

For some reason hearing about this breach pissed me off even more than usual.

Is there a single person online who hasn’t been victimized by a data breach yet?

I find it difficult to believe that all attackers are necessarily from different countries. There was a breach in Canada some years ago when a bank lost tons of information and was hated for it. The hackers were in canada and it was on the news when they were finally caught. But that was an exception and not the rule.

I did that on my windows computer but couldn’t get it to go on linux mint for some reason.

Don’t they discover them and track down who they are? If a group of jackass hackers (self taught or otherwise) are always trying to break into a system and failing a few times before getting in, wouldn’t the defenders be able to trace something about where those people are? Like is it really that dumb? Are defenders really a bunch of keystone kops driving around in circles and bumping into walls?

Also isn’t killing a person based on an immutable characteristic (race, sex, etc) already a hate crime? In the US if someone kills a woman or girl primarily because of their sex that is a hate crime on top of being first degree murder (which is a serious enough offense as it is).

I didn’t know who Trump was until around 2010 or so when I saw interviews with him online (no I didnt watch the Apprentice nor did I even know the show existed until much longer. Also while I did watch Home Alone 2 as a kid his cameo in the film went completely over my head. As far as I knew at the time Kevin just asked a completely random New Yorker where the lobby was), and I heard him mention his tariff plan and all that shit even back then.

But then I started reading articles written about him and his sorded history and I pretty much came to the conclusion that I wouldn’t trust this person with a single dollar, let alone a company or a country.

Even cracked.com that had many articles (and I still am unable to find most of them) detailing how full of shit the man was, the comments sections were nearly universal in agreement as to what a worthless man he was. This is rare since comments sections are often toxic shitpiles, but that was the exception.

The Apprentice alone is not enough to explain his continued existence outside a jail cell, even if it is a big part of it.

He was also doing his shit even back in high-school when he tried to make every failure look like a success, and when he was still working closely for his dad in the 70s some newspapers even mocked him for promising the moon but delivering a moonpie. They noted his tendency to exaggerate everything he did as the best and biggest even when it plain to see that it was not.

For a man who is obsessed with space travel and claims we need to go live on Mars. He doesn’t understand how much redundancy is critical to survival in space.

Imagine a sci-fi spaceship… you are light-years away from civilization and any repairs. What if something goes wrong on your ship? Well? There had better be at least a half dozen back up systems to guarantee that you will survive instead of being fucked.

You cannot apply just-in-time supply chain logic to space travel. YOU WILL DIE!
