  • Do a deep trace and you’ll see that all of Apples off shore data centres are Alphabet owned. There’s encryption but Apple is just renting from the least privacy focused company. Also Apples privacy is really not much more than marketing. All you need is a CEO change or hey how about the current one embracing nazism casually from his own wallet?

Low cost is the only argument here, but once you go NAS + VPN you never go back.

  • Good article, but it goes so much further than this. This is why a lot of passionate devs are nocturnal. Why the venn diagram overlap between devs and expensive noise cancelling headphones is massive. It is why lots of (voluntary) programming is procrastinated on, and ultimately simply kills a lot of software that could have been. Not to mention the software that is, could have a higher quality, leading to less frustrated users and less dead beat jobs in support.

So go on over and ask Derrek or Sheryl if they have that PDF that was sent to everyone.

Most devs have known this for decades, so let’s wait another 20 years before we get a study to confirm all that too.

  • I don’t think it can be overstated how far Apple and Tim are straying from their core values with this and the intelligence failures.

It’s bad enough Tim really only made the Watch in his nearly 15y as CEO. His recent capitulation to the Regime and now this, it’s time to go buddy.

You’re good at feeding shareholders and doing the stock buyback thing, but that’s not really what apple is. All of what apple is and you tried to mimic failed: the car, the ski goggles, the power mat and most recently “intelligence”.

These are the signs a company has peaked and is just trying to ride the past successes.

Thanks to Musk and Trump he of course looks like a half decent business leader, but when all the veils of secrecy are lifted and the privacy promises turn out to be empty, there isn’t much left.

  • Happy to have a bit of a debate over that. You can put them dead centre if that makes you feel better.

They certainly have some positives for the general public, and more so than the $.25 rebate promised by LNP. However, the majority of stuff they offer are stopgaps, instead of fixing the real underlying issues. High power bills aren’t going to go down with one off rebates. First home buyers 5% isn’t fixing the housing supply, or over demand, nor is it a solution to anyone over 40 who still hasn’t been able to buy, because a 5% deposit means you’ll pay for forever and then some. Same with tax cuts. Also Tax Cuts are right wing, though they are usually for the wealthy.

They are still all for really terrible corporate developments, they are still cosy with the coal lobby, they’re just smart enough to not bring a big beautiful lump of coal into parliament anymore. They won’t tax mega corporations fairly, they won’t do anything for the climate emergency, just boost green energy, without any serious international commitments or plans to reduce or go net zero in this term of this new government. None of that anywhere.

They tried one terribly worded referendum which probably blew the Aboriginal community a chance at some form of reconciliation for the next half a century, and there’s no more follow up. They have no solid plan for the housing crisis, just a few hand outs.

It’s not screaming right wing, and I didn’t say it was, and it certainly isn’t Trumpism, and our democracy is bar none one of the best and most secure in the world, but it isn’t progressive or left at all. It is fairly competent centrism, maintaining the status quo for corporate Australia, while minimally appeasing the plebeians, because thank fuck, it could have been so much worse. it is a shameful far cry from what we needed in order to really respond to the situation we’re in on the global timeline.

  • It must be stated that the Labor party here are anything but progressive. They are centre-right by the most recent assessment of their values and support a variety of cunts in toxic industries who fund their campaigns.

The libs (our very right wing major party) ran an exceptionally incompetent campaign, with Dutton as a key soulless idiot who can’t admit to mistakes when it hits him in the face. They had a bit of headwind from the global anti Trump sentiment, but it wasn’t like we were in the same situation like Canada.

Regionally we already ARE the 51st state of the USA, because we provide them with much needed Southern Hemisphere intelligence bases which Australians have no right to visit, and they are our protector against any major military threat in the region.

It’s a minor victory for any progressive minded person, as any mention of action on the climate emergency was stupifyingly absent from the entire campaign.

  • The funny thing is that the YT comment section was almost immediately brigaded by Elmo suckups that complained the tester was using Autopilot and not the latest version of FSD, completely forgoing the point that the LiDar vehicle stopped despite any automation systems being turned on.

This was a test of the emergency braking systems of both cars in as close to real world scenarios as possible. Whether you run over a child in heavy rain or dense fog should not be dependent on whether the driver remembered to turn certain safety systems on prior to departure.

It’s a massive fail for Tesla, and it is the closest scientific proof that the Elmo is a rich daddy boy with shit for brains. Once you have that level of money and leverage, you simply can make the most stupid decisions ever, and keep falling upwards. Meanwhile real people are dying almost weekly in his vehicles, and reporters and news organisations are scared shitless to report on them because he can cause lots of pain with his imaginary cash. Not to mention no govt agency will investigate properly because he’s got root access to that too. All those deaths are entirely preventable.

Keep burning them, keep protesting at the dealerships. This truly could be the first billionaire we bring down. Watch him activate the OTA kill switch in every Tesla before they go under too. He’s thát kind of baby. Ironically that would save a lot of lives.
